They keep dropping hints. I think the next version is big, and they're taking their time to polish it.
Also, Marco has been optimizing the current Tumblr a lot ... I don't know why he'd optimize if they're going to replace it soon. Tumblr 2.0 might be a while.
Tumblr's growth caught us by surprise, but we're in the clear for a while now, and we have some great stuff planned.
For the last few months, most feature development has taken a backseat to optimizations, bugfixes, distractions, and support emails (those are... less than fun). But don't worry - that will change very soon. I've optimized the hell out of Tumblr now, and we have a lot of room to grow.
Anyway, feature development has resumed, and we have no intention of going away anytime soon.
I've just been "involved" as a user with another development project which, it turns out, has ceased development entirely. I say "involved" because I was certainly emotionally comitted to using the product and helping them test it. I really wanted the thing to work and be a success. I thought it was a brilliant idea.
But apparently the developers are now working on something else, even though the thing is half-finished and they have 100's of users. I say "apparently" ... because they are not talking. Not even on their own forum. Not for months.
So, thanks, Marco. We'll wait patiently. After all, Tumblr actually works *now*. But we do appreciate the occasional word or two. It really does help.
Thanks for commenting Marco. I do think that a quick post on the Tumblr blog would lay at of these concerns about Tumblr not being supported anymore to rest.

I'm interested in seeing what kind of commenting system they're making. I've only heard vague things about how it'll be "different."

Yes, it would be nice if Davidville had a post once in a while. It need not be a big announcement or anything. Just a sign of life.
someone at tumblr could try

I find it ridiculous that
I find it ridiculous that the official blog for Tumblr can't be updated with just a short message saying "Hey we're not dead".
Communication is important and there's no update since April 2007.
