Archives

The worst thing about Tumblr for me is the inability to find previous posts except by a linear search through pages from the first to the last. It is annoying, and the older a blog gets the more impractical this gets.

The date based archiving, or using categories on regular blogs is OK, however the visual layout of archives in Projectionist is the best method I have ever seen.

Does anyone have any suggestions of how I might implement a workable archiving system on my Tumblr site? Preferably a visual one similar to what Projectionist uses, but if that is not possible, then any method for finding older posts is better than none.

I am prepared to pay for someone to do it if it is a complex thing to do beyond my experience, but I am determined to find a solution for this if possible.

You could use ZoomClouds,

You could use ZoomClouds, which generates a tag cloud. What turns me off about it though, is that clicking on a tag gives not only a list of results from my tumblelog, but also a lot of ads.

You could also consider integrating a search engine. I've seen someone mention that here. It won't necessarily help new people, but people looking for something they've seen before might get some benefit from this.
